Balance disorders are a common cause of falls. The resulting injuries can be life threatening in elderly or infirm patients.

The Balance Disorders Center treats conditions that cause disorders of balance. We also provide vestibular rehabilitation (a form of physical therapy) to help improve patient symptoms.

Balance disorders are often caused by vestibular diseases, which affect the inner ear. These include vestibular neuronitis, labyrinthitis, Meniere’s disease (endolymphatic hydrops) and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

Such conditions affect your ability to judge where your body is in space. Symptoms can include vertigo (sensation of rotational movement), unsteadiness or imbalance and can be severely debilitating.

Advanced diagnostic testing available at the Balance Disorders Center includes platform posturography, rotational chair testing, videonystagmography (VNG) and vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) testing.
