Adult Airway Reconstructive Surgery Program
Our team of Otolaryngologist with expertise in management of complex adult airway problems. Because the etiology of adult laryngotracheal stenosis is often multifactorial, we work closely with a team of anesthesiologist, intensivist, thoracic surgeons, general surgeons, pulmonologist, speech pathologist and gastroenterologist to provide a comprehensive treatment plan.
Causes of laryngotracheal stenosis in adults in often mulitfactorial. Etiologies include trauma, inflammatory conditions, infection, autoimmune diseases and reflux disease. There are many cases where the cause is not determined, and therefore considered “idiopathic stenosis,” Our team will work with you and your local physician to assure that you have the best possible evaluation so that your disease can be best managed.
Because airway disease can often affect voice and swallowing function, you will also receive a comprehensive voice and swallowing functional evaluation by or voice and swallow team speech pathologist and physicians.
Adult laryngotracheal problems are treated and managed by a variety of techniques. Some problems are amendable to endoscopic treatment where as more complex problems may require open airway surgical techniques.
Our team is the evolutionary result of the expertise and world renowned program developed by Dr. Robin Cotton at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
